Wisconsin Badgers Football will play LSU at Lambeau Field in 2016, according to Madison.com. The report confirms rumors that have been swirling for six months. University of Wisconsin Football fans living in Northeast Wisconsin will have a prime opportunity to see the Badgers at the newly renovated home of the Packers and against a “big time” opponent.
UW will open the 2014 and 2016 seasons playing LSU in a pair of non-conference games at neutral sites.
A major key to the agreement with LSU is the financial guarantee. UW is seeking a payout similar to one of its home games at Camp Randall Stadium. That translates to $3 million to $3.5 million.
The announcement is the latest in Wisconsin’s mission to play more perennial powerhouses in the pre-season. Once the contract is signed with LSU, the Badgers will be able to go after other marquee matchups like the one they have scheduled with defending national champion Alabama. The Badgers will play Alabama on September 5, 2015, at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
