Sturgeon Bay Football fell 50-3 to the Wrightstown Tigers on senior night at Memorial Field last night in a game broadcast on 104.1 FM WRLU. The Clippers saw senior Lucas Stephenson carry the ball 14 times for a hard fought 69 yards. “Lucky” accounted for over 60 percent of the total offense Friday night for Sturgeon Bay. Stephenson’s efforts came a week after he went off for 167 rushing yards against the Southern Door Eagles.
Matthew Van Bramer threw a number of very good passes in the dense fall air. He finished with 40 yards passing on four completions to Clipper receivers.
Injuries were a big story against Wrightstown. Sturgeon Bay’s team had a difficult week with the flu bug being passed around the locker room. At one point last night Clipper Coach Greg Freiherr had no linebackers available to play in the game.
The Clippers travel to Valders next Friday with the final game of the season at Brillion on October 18. Both games will air on 104.1 FM WRLU. A special thank you to Jerry Grassel for providing the color commentary for last night’s game. The 75-year-old graduated from Sturgeon Bay in 1956 and was a proud member of the Clippers football team all four years of his high school career.
Grassel was the latest in a string of guest color commentators during alumni season on 104.1 FM WRLU. Matthew Seiler will join the broadcast next week when he returns from Arizona State to help Nick Freimuth call the Clippers Vs. Valders game starting with pre-game coverage at 6:30 PM.
