Algoma junior Kennedy Blahnik will compete Tuesday in the World Youth Track and Field Trials in Illinois after a stellar track season.
Blahnik became a three-time WIAA Division 3 state champion in the shot put and discus in May, breaking her own state records in both events. The University of Wisconsin recruit earned the Press-Gazette Media’s attention again and, for the second consecutive year, is the organization’s track and field athlete of the year.
Along with Blahnik, Press Gazette Media recognized other area athletes on its all-area girls track and field team:
Jasmine Noel, Sturgeon Bay – shot put and discus
Shante Williams, Algoma – triple jump
Clarissa Jauregui, Gibraltar/Washington Island – 800 meter
Lisa Baeten, Luxemburg-Casco – 1,600 meter and 3,200 meter
Hannah Abrahamson, Sturgeon Bay – 300 meter hurdles
