The sixth game of the season between the Mallards and Bullfrogs started out slow before the bats came alive late at Joannes Stadium on Wednesday night.
Starting pitchers Matt Esparza (Tennessee) and Cody Peterson (MATC) pitched three scoreless innings each, and the game was tied at 0-0 going in to the top of the fourth.
Joe McCarthy (Virginia) made his Mallard debut and scored the first run of the game to give Madison a 1-0 lead after the top of the fourth.
Green Bay came right back to score with back to back sacrifice hits from Boomer White (TCU) and Tripp Martin (Samford) to tie the game at one after four innings.
Madison scored a run in the fifth and sixth inning to take a 3-1 lead, but as darkness set in and the lights came on at Joannes Stadium, the bats turned on as well. Four runs came around to score with Trevin Sonnier (Dallas Baptist) leading off the inning with a double. Robert Youngdahl (Notre Dame), Andrew Ely (Washington) and Tripp Martin followed Sonnier and came around to score to give Green Bay a 5-3 lead after six innings.
Green Bay added on three more runs in the eighth inning to end the scoring and give the Bullfrogs an 8-3 lead going in to the top of the ninth.
Will Landsheft (Drury) came in to throw a clean ninth inning to secure an 8-3 Bullfrogs victory over the Mallards. The win went to Green Bay reliever Jonathon Tripp, and the loss to Madison reliever Ben Neumann.
The Bullfrogs return home next Tuesday to take on the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
