The second annual Sturgeon Bay Salmon Shootout sponsored by Howie's Tackle of Sturgeon Bay was a success.
The event was held Saturday, June 15. Weigh-in was held at Madelyn Marina in Sturgeon Bay. A total of 20 boats were entered. There were two categories: Class A consisted of any size boat and Class B consisted of boats less than 25 feet.
Each team weighed their five heaviest fish. Cash and prizes were awarded to the top five winners in each class, and gift certificates and prizes were awarded to the remaining entrants. Class A winner was Phil Pahnke of Luxemburg with a total weight of 71.70 pounds. Class B winner was Kurt Kostichka with a total weight of 63.80 pounds.
There was also a bonus prize for the heaviest salmon caught during the tournament. Lexington Homes awarded Scott Richard $1,000 for catching the heaviest salmon which weighed 25.35 pounds. Biggest rainbow was caught by Kurt Kostichka at 11.90 pounds. Jesse Madoche had the biggest lake trout at 14.65 pounds.
"I was happy with the turnout for our second year," said Mike Richard, owner of Howie's Tackle, "I heard a lot of great comments from the fisherman. It was a fun event."
