
Kewaunee senior Kelsey Stangel and Algoma senior guard Taylor Schmidt each went out on top last weekend by winning their last high school basketball game. The state champions each learned Wednesday that they were awarded all-state honorable mention by the AP.
Stangel compiled 27 points in the dramatic state championship victory against East Troy in Division 3. Stangel’s efforts helped her earn tournament MVP. Stangel was also an all-state selection by the Wisconsin Coaches Association.

Algoma’s Taylor Schmidt hoisted the gold ball on the floor of the Resch Center Saturday in Division 4. The Packerland Conference player of the year was also an AP honorable mention all-state selection as well as an all-state selection by the WBCA and the best senior guard in the state according to the same group.
