On January 1, Peninsula State Park will sponsor a First Day Hike, offering visitors the opportunity to rejuvenate by taking a family friendly trek led by Friends of Peninsula State Park.
First Day hikers will meet at the Weborg picnic shelter, at 10 AM until noon on January 1. Following an easy, one to three mile hike along the Sunset Bike Route and Weborg marsh while observing a variety of bird species, there will be an opportunity to warm up in the shelter with hot chocolate and cookies.
“We are excited to host a First Day Hike as part of the national effort to get people outdoors and into our parks. First Day Hikes are a great way to cure cabin fever and burn off those extra holiday calories by starting off the New Year with an invigorating walk or hike in one of our beautiful state parks,” said Kelli Bruns, Peninsula State Park Superintendent.
Children are welcome, with adult supervision, but pets are not allowed. Participants are advised to bring a water bottle, binoculars, and field guide, and to dress for the weather, with hiking boots or snowshoes. A state park vehicle sticker is required.
For cancellation information, please call the park office (920) 868-3258, or refer to the Friends of Peninsula State Park Facebook page or Friends of Peninsula State Park web page.
