Algoma & Southern Door Boys Basketball Winning Early

Jake Wiese proved to his teammates that he is the player that needs the ball in his hands at the end of the game last night when he hit a game-winning three-pointer against Reedsville. With two seconds left on the fourth quarter clock, the game was tied. Wiese calmly stepped into a solid look from outside the arc and nailed his seventh triple of the game. The shot handed the Wolves a 58-55 season opening win. Wiese led all scorers with 25 points, teammate Hunter Prokash added 10 and Travis Kostichka scored eight in the paint.

Southern Door proved they are the real deal in another convincing win, 65-26 over Mishicot. Austin Rohe propelled the Eagles past the non-conference opponent with a game high 16 points. Southern Door was down one after the first quarter but tightened up their defense allowing a total of 12 points in the final three quarters. Coach Ben Rikkola said a fired up half time conversation seemed to resonate with the boys as they came out and scored 22 points in the third quarter. Mitchell Gerend added 12 points as the Eagles moved to (2-0) on the season.

Southern Door has earned the WRLU Team of the Week honor for their electrifying start to the season. They will be featured Monday on the Witt Ford Red Zone with Graham Harrell and defensive back Tim Jennings. All of the varsity players will get a chance to be interviewed on the radio between 5:15 and 6:00 PM.
