High school basketball practice started across Wisconsin this week. Boys and girls teams are fighting for gym space already and it won't get any easier next week when wrestling practice starts.
In Packerland Conference boys basketball, N.E.W. Lutheran is predicted to be the top team this season. Challengers could pop up from any of the Door and Kewaunee County schools.
In girls hoops, the conference is a bit more wide open. Algoma and Kewaunee are perennial powerhouses. The Wolves may have a slight edge with senior Taylor Schmidt returning from an ACL to lead the team in her final high school basketball campaign.
Wrestling will be a great race to watch. Southern Door, Sturgeon Bay and Oconto all have equal opportunity to steal this year's Packerland Conference crown.
