After losing their first game 7-3 to Northwoods, Sturgeon Bay won three straight games to advance to the final four at the 15 year old All-Star tournament in Dodgeville last weekend. Nick LeCaptain had three doubles and Alex Johnson had two hits in the game one loss.
In game two, Sturgeon Bay was trailing 5-1 in the bottom of the 5th inning. They rallied to beat Lodi 6-5. Isaiah Spetz had an RBI single and Connor Brennan followed with a two-run scoring single to cut the lead to one. Nick LeCaptain hit an RBI triple in the 6th to tie the game and scored the winning run on a balk. LeCaptain led Sturgeon Bay with two hits in the victory. Jeffrey Alberts pitched four scoreless innings of one-hit ball to earn the win in relief.
Sturgeon Bay followed with an 8-5 victory over Marinette. Nick LeCaptain led the way with three hits and Alex Johnson, Connor Brennan & Jacob Moeller added two hits in the win. Ernie Erickson pitched 5 2/3 innings to earn the
win and Tory Jandrin retired the final two batters with the tying run at the plate to earn the save.
Sturgeon Bay then defeated Cross Plains 8-5 to reach the final four. Leading 5-3 in the top of the 7th inning, Ernie Erickson hit a bases-loaded clearing double to stretch the lead. Alex Johnson pitched 6 innings in relief to earn the win for Sturgeon Bay. Nick LeCaptain and Tory Jandrin had two hits apiece in the victory.
Despite a furious late comeback, the Sturgeon Bay 15 year old all-stars were eliminated by Eau Claire 4-3. Sturgeon Bay rallied for three runs in the bottom of the 7th inning, and had runners at the corners but their comeback bid
fell short. Nick LeCaptain had two hits in the loss. LeCaptain finished the tournament batting 12-19 (.632 Avg), 8 runs, 5 doubles, & 1 triple.
Sturgeon Bay finished in 4th place with a (3-2) record.
