The Alumni Spotlight shines on track star Dr. Jennifer (Antonissen) Olson and flashes back to the mid-1990s. Olson is a graduate of Southern Door High School (1996) and received her undergraduate degree from St. Norbert College in De Pere. She went on to graduate from dentistry school at Marquette University in 2006. At Southern Door, she played four years of volleyball and basketball, while also running track. She ran track all four years at St. Norbert and played volleyball for two years. Olson was inducted into the Southern Door Sports Hall of Fame in 2009.
Competing in the state track meet in La Crosse each year was definitely the highlight of her high school sports career. Olson especially remembers winning her junior year and setting a state record.
Olson fondly recalls the “fearsome foursome” nickname given to her and her relay teammates during the remarkable four-year run at state.
Reflecting on what she misses most about her high school career, Olson remembers running with her teammates.
Keeping a positive attitude is the key piece of advice Olson would give to current student athletes who are participating in sports.
Olson still plays volleyball in outdoor and indoor leagues in Door County. She and her husband, Travis, reside in Southern Door with their three children. She owns her own dental practice in Sturgeon Bay – Olson Dental in the Orchard Business Complex on Michigan Street.
