Algoma Girls Survive Overtime Thriller 51-50

The Algoma Lady Wolves advance to the sectional finals in Waupaca Saturday night after a thrilling 51- 50 overtime victory over Amherst in Seymour.  The Division 4 semi-final was decided on a Kennedy Blahnik layup with three seconds left in the overtime. The assist from Meg Ryan was unexpected, according to Blahnik.

Amherst scored the final eight points in the fourth quarter to extend the game, Algoma survived thanks to a 15 point night from senior Meg Ryan who hit four three pointers. Rachel Feuerstein’s defense was also key for the Wolves.  The game was close throughout, before Algoma built the late eight point lead in the fourth quarter before Amherst’s comeback to tie in regulation.

Senior point guard Meg Ryan said a win like this builds character and certainly proves that only the best teams in the state are still alive in the tournament.
