Jay R. Zahn of Sturgeon Bay, went to be with his lord and savior on Monday, August 28, 2023 at Bellin Hospital in Green Bay.  He was 66.  

Jay was born in Sturgeon Bay on June 2, 1957, to Roger and Gail (Ostram) Zahn.  Jay is the oldest of the Zahn’s four children.  Growing up, Jay and his siblings picked strawberries and cherries from 6-9 am before taking them to the family business of Zahn’s Green Thumb.  Jay worked there from the age of 12 in some capacity for the entire 45 years it was open.

Jay attended Sevastopol, played trombone in the band and appeared in every school musical or play.   He graduated and was valedictorian of his class of 1975.  Jay graduated from the University of Oshkosh with a bachelor of science degree in Radio and Television.  He was diagnosed with kidney disease when he was 19.  He missed a semester during his junior year awaiting a kidney transplant.  The cadaver kidney lasted 14 years before it failed.  His mother was able to donate her kidney for his second transplant, which lasted the rest of his life.

Jay’s “first” job, other than working at Zahn’s Green Thumb, was the news director at WDOR Radio in Sturgeon Bay.  He worked there until his uncle, Chester Ostram, retired after 18 years as the Door County Treasurer.  Jay ran for that office as one of seven opponents.  He won the election and ran unopposed for the next 30 years.  Jay was the county treasurer from January 1991 to January 2021 when he retired.

Jay was active in many clubs and associations throughout the county and the state.  If he was in a club, he usually advanced to administrative positions.  He was active in the Sturgeon Bay Jaycee’s and received the Keyman’s award for service and the Presidential Award of Honor.  He earned the State Award for one of 10 outstanding Wisconsinites.  Jay was the President of the State Treasurer’s Association, received a Volunteer Service Award from the Kidney Foundation, was a member of the Rotary Club, the Treasurer on the Sevastopol School Board for 9 years, Treasurer of the Miss Door County program, President of the Door County Historical Society, on St. Peter’s Lutheran church council for years as well as singing in the choir.  Jay was also very active in many Bridge clubs throughout the county and online during the winter months, especially during the COVID shut down.    Playing Bridge was a passion he shared with his mother Gail.  

Jay was a Packer season ticket holder as well as an avid Brewer fan.  After retirement, Jay enjoyed weekly “family meals” with his family and friends.  They would pick out different restaurants throughout the county for weekly meals together.  We would like to thank Charlene Viste, Doug McGee, Larry and Mary Maas, Betty DeGodt and family members Linda and Michael Bailey as well as his aunt Betty Ostram for joining our family for meals.  

Survivors include his brother Jan (Betty) Zahn and his sister Jody (David) Wheat both of Sturgeon Bay; nieces Lacy (Josh) Massart, Scarlett Zahn, Jenna (Steve) Pavlat and nephew Jeremy (Amber) Wheat.  He is also survived by his grand nieces and nephews, Collin and Chase Massart, Kylie and Dane Soukup, Lily and Carter Pavlat.  

Jay was preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Gail Zahn; his brother, Jeff Zahn; paternal and maternal grandparents; his uncle Chester Ostram, Jr.; his aunt Marjore and uncle Bob McCartney; and his Uncle Russel Zahn.  

Friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at Forbes Funeral Home from 3:00 pm - 7:30 pm.  A devotion is scheduled for 7:30 pm that evening.  Funeral services will be held at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church on Wednesday, September 6 at 11:00 am.  Visitation at the church will be from 10:00 am until the time of service.  Graveside services will be held immediately after the service at Bayside Cemetery.    Family and friends are invited to a meal in the church basement.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay or the Door County Historical Society.

    David G. Erickson, 81 years, of Ellison Bay, passed away August 20, 2023 in Manzanita, Oregon after suffering an apparent heart attack.

    David was born April 9, 1942 in LaCrosse, the only child of Gerhard and Dorothy (Lind) Erickson. Growing up in Coon Valley cemented in him a love for the outdoors, including fishing and hunting, that he enjoyed his entire life. After his graduation from Westby High School, David went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree in Business from University of Wisconsin-Madison. While at UW, David was in the school’s first computer science class. He started his career with NASA in Southern California before returning to Wisconsin, where he began his married life with Beatrice Ann (Bea) Lokken in Mount Horeb, where they raised their two children, Leah Né and Todd. After he and his family moved to Madison, David began working for Grant-Thornton and the State of Wisconsin while his children finished high school and moved into college. His later work with Price Waterhouse technology brought him and Bea to Florida, where they lived for several years. When he began work with Ameritech, David and Bea relocated to Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. They returned to Florida when David began work with KPMG’s Technology Division and retired there in 2004 as a partner. Not quite ready to quit working, David became a consultant for the City of Portland, Oregon, for five years. Leaving Portland, they became “snow birds,” splitting their time between Longboat Key, Florida and Door County.

    David dearly loved his wife Bea, often reminding her that they had “a heck of a ride” over their 50+ years together. This included daily time together over the last several years as a gift of Covid. He was proud of all things Wisconsin, especially his beloved Packers and Badgers. He was a longtime member of the UW Alumni Association and was thrilled when his granddaughter Rowan began her undergraduate career at UW in 2022.

    David was a generous man with his time, a thoughtful mentor and a person who readily shared his gift of helping those around him feel a sense of comfort and welcome. He also possessed a wonderful sense of humor and always enjoyed a good laugh with friends. David’s idea of being on time was to arrive fifteen minutes early. He lived life to its fullest, spending time golfing, hunting, fishing and target shooting in Wisconsin, Wyoming and South Dakota. He enjoyed the finer things in life, including travel, and the smell and look of a new car, especially Lincolns and Cadillacs.

    He is survived by his wife, Bea, of Ellison Bay; son, Todd (Ariane) Erickson; seven grandchildren, Andrew, Brendan, Jacob, Rowan, Audrey, Kaylie, and Abbie. Preceding him in death are his parents, and his daughter, Leah Né.

    Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday August 29, 2023 at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church in Juddville, with Rev. Frank Kauzlarich officiating. Burial will be at Bayside Cemetery in Sturgeon Bay.

    Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m.to 11:30 a.m. Memorials in his memory may be made to Northern Sky Theater or Peninsula Players Theatre.

Edward “Eddie” G. Hunsader Jr., 82, Sturgeon Bay, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Monday, August 21, 2023, after a brief illness. 

The son of Edward G. Hunsader Sr. and Doris (Burke), Edward was born on July 26, 1941, in Sturgeon Bay. He was a graduate of Sturgeon Bay High School (1959). Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and was stationed in Panama. After finishing his term in the Navy, he returned to Wisconsin and found work in Milwaukee at Allen-Bradley. On April 26, 1969, he married Susan Stephan. The two of them have enjoyed 54 years of marriage. Edward served for 28 years as a Sheriff’s Deputy with the Door County Sheriff’s Department. 

Ed loved the outdoors, especially fishing, like his father. He was an avid runner and completed the Twin Cities Marathon four times. One of his favorite places was ‘the camp’ which he and Susan built with their friends in the U.P. It was his dying wish for his family to continue to enjoy spending time there. 

Survivors include his spouse, Susan (Stephan) Hunsader, Sturgeon Bay; his children: Alan (Susan) Hunsader, Appleton, Erin Hunsader, Appleton, Phil (Carrie) Hunsader, Sturgeon Bay; five grandchildren: Madeline and Peter, Kolin, Piper and Marin; and his siblings: Tina Danielson, Sturgeon Bay, Tony (Sue) Hunsader, Sturgeon Bay and his niece, Justine (Paul) Mancheski (Forestville).

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Ward Danielson.

Friends are invited to gather on Friday, September 1, 2023, at Forbes Funeral Home, 319 W. Spruce St., Sturgeon Bay from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. for visitation.  A prayer service is scheduled for 6:30 pm that evening. The memorial service will be celebrated on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Sturgeon Bay with Fr. Mathew Rappl officiating, followed by military honors with meal to follow in the church basement. Visitation at the church will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday morning.

Darlene Pontzloff, 68 years, of Sturgeon Bay passed away Thursday, August 17, 2023 at her home.

     She was born February 11, 1955 in Wauwatosa the daughter of the late Alfon and Frieda (Hamm) Zachow. Darlene attended Sturgeon Bay High School. For many years she worked at Door County Memorial Hospital as a dietary aide.  Darlene was the assistant deli manager at various stores including Main Street Market, Pick and Save, Roy’s and Nick’s Super Value.

     On August 26, 1978 she married James R. Pontzloff at St. Peters Ev. Lutheran Church. Darlene enjoyed camping, riding ATVs, attending music festivals and dancing.

     Surviving family include her husband, Jim of Sturgeon Bay; daughter, Dee Dee (James) Sternard of Algoma, DeJay Pontzloff of Gordon, WI; two granddaughters, Kayla (finance, Justin Gruszynski) Fort, Hope (Alex) Neri; three great-grandchildren, Axel, Melanie, and Sergio; two sisters, Sandy Filiput of Sturgeon Bay, and Carol Jones of Benson AZ; many dear nieces and nephews; and special friend, Yvonne Tanck.

     Preceding her in death were parents, Alfon and Frieda Zachow; daughter, Dawn Wunning; siblings, Elda Geke, Alfon, Jr, Floyd, Raymond, Audrey Ludeman, Elaine Schneider and Donna Lewis.

Ronald D. Berg, 89, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away at home on August 17, 2023, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.  He was born July 25, 1934 to Harry G. and Pearl M. (Torstenson) Berg in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. He graduated with honors from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1952.  He served in the U.S. Army with the U.S. Security Agency from 1956-1958 and received a Letter of Commendation and offer of employment with the CIA following his service.  Instead, he chose to return to Sturgeon Bay and marry the love of his life, Judith Ann Lefebvre, on 

November 7, 1959.  They shared 63 wonderful years together and raised four children. 

Ron enjoyed being a pitcher in city league baseball in his younger days.  Throughout his life, Ron loved golfing and he especially loved being on the water. He spent many happy hours boating with Judy and their family and friends.  His love of fishing was shared with his grandchildren almost as soon as they could hold a pole.

Ron started working at the Door County Advocate as a young boy, cleaning printing blocks.  He worked his way up until he served as the Business Manager.  In 1971, Ron was hired as a mortgage loan officer at Bank of Sturgeon Bay (which later became Baylake Bank and is now Nicolet Bank).  He was soon promoted to commercial lending, and he continued to be promoted until he was Senior Vice President of Administration.  In 1981, Ron graduated from the University of Wisconsin Graduate School of Banking. He also served on the Baylake Bank’s Board of Directors for more than twenty years.

Ron was a long time and active member of the Sturgeon Bay Moravian Church where he taught Adult Bible Class, Sunday School, and was a Youth Fellowship Leader.  He also served on the Board of Elders and the Board of Trustees. 

Ron helped to shape and preserve his community by serving as president and board member of numerous organizations including, Sturgeon Bay Rotary, Sturgeon Bay Yacht Club (Commodore in 2000), Peninsula Players Theater, Sturgeon Bay Lions, Sturgeon Bay Jaycees, Door County United Way, and Sunshine Resources. Ron was named as Door County’s Outstanding young man in 1967.

Ron also provided leadership in local government. He was elected as the youngest alderperson, thus far, by write in vote.  He also served terms on the Door County Board of Supervisors, Door County Chamber of Commerce, Door County Industrial Development Corp., Sturgeon Bay Board of Parks and Recreation and Door County Library Board. 

Beyond Door County, Ron served as a member of the Adtec, Inc. Board of Directors and a member of the Wisconsin Bankers Association Retail Banking Committee.

Ron is survived by his wife Judy; children: Brenda Bender (special friend Scott Rader), Jeff (Jennelle) Berg, David Berg (Sara Crawford), and Amy DeMain (Glen DeKeyser); his grandchildren: Bret (Liza) Bender and Allison Bender (JD Yim), Kesha (Ryan) Quade, Quinlin Berg (Kylie Owens), Bradyn (Katlyn) DeMain, and Julia DeMain (Tyler Reiland); his great-grandchildren Francesca and Aldo Quade; nieces and nephews.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, siblings: Janet (Louis) Jakubovsky, Verdene (Rudy) Berres, Gene Richard (Betty) Berg, Avalon (Paul) Patzlaff, Judith (Raymond) Challe: and a great-grandchild Tate Quade.

Friends may call at the Forbes Funeral Home on Thursday, Aug. 24th from 5:00 – 7:00 pm and at the Sturgeon Bay Moravian Church on Friday, Aug. 25th from 10:00 am until 11:00 am when a memorial service will be conducted to honor his life.

Sally A. Schroepfer nee DeMelle, age 85 of Clintonville passed away Thursday morning, August 10, 2023 at her home.

Sally was born on August 3, 1938, in Sturgeon Bay, the daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret (Nebel) DeMelle. She enjoyed her childhood on the Bay, spending her summers swimming and sailing. Sally graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School with the Class of 1956 and was united in marriage to James “Jim” Schroepfer on August 24, 1957, in Sturgeon Bay. They settled into their tiny home and began their family of seven children. As their family grew, they called many cities their home and made many friends along the way. The couple settled in Clintonville in 1971, where Sally worked for Wisconsin Gas Company. Sally was an active member of St. Rose Catholic Church where she served as a member of the P.C.C.W., Communion Distributor, and Lector for church services. Sally was also active in the community, volunteering her time to serve Meals on Wheels and as a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #63. Sally and Jim didn't travel often, but one week a year they would pack up seven kids, a dog, and a guitar in a station wagon and take an unforgettable trip. After her children had grown, Sally enjoyed trips to Europe, including Italy and Germany, and traveling the Country with her very best friends, the Rain Chicks. Sally practiced tap dance since childhood and performed in community performances dancing with the “Steppin’ Sisters”.  She loved theater and performed in shows at the Mielke Theatre in Shawano. Jim preceded Sally in death in 2006, after 49 years of marriage. In 2011 Sally was united in marriage to Jerry Grassel at St. Rose with Deacon Tom Jozwiak officiating and enjoyed many wonderful years together.

Children: Jean (Terry) Nichols, Thomas (Shelly) Schroepfer, Beth (John) Ziereis, Ellen Doberstein, John (Dawn) Schroepfer, Paul (Jennifer) Schroepfer, and Amy (Mark) Goerlinger.

Shirley Mae Severin, 80, of Kewaunee, passed away on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, peacefully at home with family by her side. She was born on March 7, 1943, to the late Herbert and Mabel (Chapek) Wolske. On January 21, 1967, she married the love of her life, Henry J. Severin. Shirley enjoyed traveling, flowers, gardening, and nature, playing cards (especially Sheepshead), and scrapbooking. Above all she loved watching the grandkids many-many activities and caregiving for her family and friends.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Henry J. Severin; children, Christine (Gordon Kline) Severin, Nick (Shara) Severin, Paul (Trisha Wisniewski) Severin; grandchildren, Nichole (Josh Thomas) Severin, Sam (Shelbi Seefeldt) Severin, Jack Severin, Max Severin; brothers, James (Judy) Wolske, Bruce Wolske; sisters, Barbara Bosdeck, Wendy (Jim) Stoller, Carol Wolske, Cindy Milinski; sisters-in-law, Donna (Dan), and Doris (Daryle Sr). She was preceded in death by her parents, Mabel and Herbert Wolske; brothers, Daryle Wolske Sr and Dan Wolske; and sister, Dianne Jacobs.

Robert R. (Bob) Entringer 85, passed away August 07, 2023. He was born July 2, 1938, to Rufus and Viola Entringer. Bob was raised in Algoma, he graduated from St. Mary Grade School in 1952 and Algoma High School in 1956. Upon graduation Bob attended St. Norbert College, graduating in 1960. Bob then enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as an officer in the 73rd Signal Battalion. He was stationed at Ft. Hood Texas and in Germany.

Following an Honorable discharge, Bob then began a career in teaching. He taught English and Biology at River Valley High School in Spring Green WI. During this time he was President of the River Valley Education Association and also served on the Public Relations and Professional Responsibilities Committee for the Wisconsin Education Association. While living in Spring Green he helped to establish the River Valley Community Theater and he was very active with the local theater productions.

After Bob left Spring Green and returned to his hometown of Algoma, he began the next chapter in his life. While still teaching as a substitute, Bob also helped to start-up the Door Peninsula Winery in Carlsville. Being one of the original employees, he enjoyed giving tours of the winery and helping visitors select the perfect bottle of wine. He continued there until the age of 83 because he enjoyed meeting people.

Bob was also very involved and active in community. He served as the chairman of the Kewaunee County Democratic Party for 25 years. He was a Vice Chair of the 8th Congressional District and was elected to the County Board of Supervisors. He served on the Elderly Services Committee as chairperson and was a member of the Baylake Planning Commission. Somehow in all this he was also President of the Algoma Hospital Board.

Bob was also a very dedicated member of the International Association of Lions Clubs. He served as Secretary and President of Lions Clubs in both Spring Green and later in Algoma. In 1974 he was elected a District Governor for District 27B2. Recently, he was presented with a brick in his name to be placed on the wall of honor at the Lions youth camp in Rosholt Wisconsin. During his time with the Lions Club, he attained the prestigious Melvin Jones Award.

As a lifelong member of St. Mary Parish, Bob gave of his time, talent and treasure. He was very active in parish activities, including time as Parish Council President and Lector. He was also a member of the Algoma Knights of Columbus.

Bob had a lifelong passion for reading and learning, served several years as President of the Kewaunee County Library Board and represented Kewaunee County on the Nicolet Federated Library Board. A personal passion was lifelong collecting of fine Leather bound classic books. He was an avid stamp and sports memorabilia collector. He loved sports and fishing. He was a kind and giving person, generous to his friends. He cared about community and was deeply worried about the politics of today.

Bob wished to thank all the Doctors, nurses, and nursing assistants who helped with his final months. Along with his close friends Tracy, Laurie, Janet, the rest of his winery family, and neighbor’s Ron and Jody. He also wanted to recognize his parish family member and caretaker Ed.

Robert is survived by a few cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, infant twins Janet and John, and his own twin sister Roberta.  
There will be a public visitation for Bob on Monday, August 14th, 2023, from 9:00 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Algoma, with Father Andrew Kurz officiating.  Burial to follow in the church cemetery with full military rites.

Erna “Erny” Adams Pentecost, age 80, of Anderson, SC, passed away on August 3, 2023.

Erny was born on September 19, 1942, in Gommern, Germany to Adolf and Anni Niemann. She came to the Chicago, IL area in December 1959, intending on perfecting her English and returning home to Germany for a career in the airline industry as a flight attendant. This goal wasn’t met, as she met her first husband, Frank, of 22 years and raised a family in LaGrange Park, IL.

Erny will be missed by her husband of 31 years, Ed Pentecost, and her three children: daughter Sandra (Scott) Messinger of Anderson, SC, and sons Frank (Heather) Adams of Alpine, UT, and Stephen (friend Theresa) Adams of Sandy, UT, as well as seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters Hilde Winterstein and Edith Pfefferle, three nephews and three nieces, all in Germany; and Ed’s children: son Michael Pentecost (Courtney) of Nashville, TN and daughter Amanda Becker (Troy) of Tampa, FL., and their children.

Erny was a member in the LaGrange Methodist Church in Illinois working in the newborn and toddler nursery and singing in the choir. Her hobbies have included hiking, bicycling, writing poetry and short stories, knitting, flower gardening, and reading. Prior to her life in Anderson, Erny and her husband lived in Baileys Harbor, Wisconsin for 13 years. Erny enjoyed her hobbies as well as singing in the Door County Chamber Singers, a community choir that performed Christmas concerts in the area. Erna became a member of Roberts Presbyterian Church after moving to Anderson in late 2017.

A funeral service honoring her life will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, August 11, at Roberts Presbyterian Church in Anderson, SC. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. Friday at the church prior to the service.

Dean Michael Champeau, 90, of Sister Bay, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at Good Samaritan Society - Scandia Village in Sister Bay. While battling dementia and Alzheimer's, he remained a kind and quiet man.

     Dean was born August 7, 1932 in Fish Creek, the son of Victor J. and Wilhemenia "Minnie" (Kodanko) Champeau. He grew up attending Maple Grove School and Appleport School  and graduated from Gibraltar High School with the class of 1951. Dean joined the United States Coast Guard later that year, entering into active duty on November 6, 1951 and served until his honorable discharge on December 30, 1952. Dean returned home to the farm in Sister Bay. He married Eileen Petersen on June 20, 1959 at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church (now Stella Maris Parish-Baileys Harbor site). Dean worked in the shipyards at Christy Corporation in Sturgeon Bay and then Masterfreeze in Sister Bay. He then spent over 30 years working as a shipfitter in the shipyards at Peterson Builders, Inc. (PBI) in Sturgeon Bay, carpooling with many good men from the area to start work at 6:45 a.m. After "work" each day, Dean came home to take care of the farm, raising beef cattle and crops on his parents' farm on County Road ZZ in Sister Bay.

     He was a devout Catholic and was a longtime member of St. Rosalia Parish (now Stella Maris Parish-Sister Bay site) and an active member of the Knights of Columbus Our Lady of the Bays Council #4896. Through his military service, Dean was also an active member of the Billy Weiss American Legion Post 527. He was one of the original men to start Nor-Dor Lodge up in Pembine. A lover of golf, fishing, hunting, and card playing, Dean had an ability to win more than lose on his many card games around the bar at the Sister Bay Bowl. When he won, he would bring home candy bars from the Bowl which was a big treat for his kids.

     Dean and Eileen were blessed with over 58 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on May 31, 2018. 

     Dean is survived by his five children, Jacquelynn (John) Sawyer of Egg Harbor, Perry Champeau of Sister Bay, Michael Champeau of Sister Bay, Erin (Andy) Franke of Baileys Harbor, and Ryan (Sandra McMullen) Champeau of Sister Bay; three grandchildren, Kimberly (fiancé, Nick Kornaus)Sawyer, Katie (Mark) Helscher, and Tom (Natalie) Sawyer; six great-grandchildren, Maggie, Annie, and Archie, Jack and James, and Olivia, and another great grandson due in October; sister-in-law, Joan Champeau of Sister Bay; other relatives; and friends.

     He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two brothers, Jack (Arlene) Champeau and Jim Champeau; parents-in-law, William Sr. and Irma (Lohrey) Petersen; brother-in-law, William Petersen, Jr.; and other relatives.

     A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 11, 2023 at Stella Maris Parish-Sister Bay site with Fr. Thomas Farrell as celebrant. Dean will be laid to rest in the church cemetery, St. Rosalia Cemetery, with military honors by the United States Coast Guard and the Bill Weiss American Legion Post 527. A luncheon will follow at the church.

     Visitation for family and friends will be held at the church on Friday, August 11, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until 10: 50 a.m. 

     Memorials may be made out to the Dean Champeau family and will be distributed to causes important to Dean and his care.

Mary G. Davister, 75, Humboldt, died Tuesday, August 1, 2023, after a valiant 4 ½ year battle with multiple myeloma.  She was born January 24, 1948, to the late George & Mary (Shefchik) Treml in Kewaunee County. Mary graduated from Luxemburg High School in 1965 and was united in marriage to Dale J. Davister on  October 1, 1966, at St. Mary Church, Luxemburg. He preceded her in death on August 28, 2021. She ran a dairy farm in Sugarbush until 1990, worked at Pott’s Cheese Factory then ran a horse stable and carriage business up until her illness.  Mary had a deep Catholic faith and was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish being involved in many ministries; serving as a catechism teacher for 20 years, Eucharistic Minister and Seven Sisters prayer group to name a few. Her enjoyments included tending to the horses, shooting pool, tractor pulling, knitting, baking, shopping which earned her the nickname “Glamma”, routine outings with girlfriends, the YMCA Silver Sneaker group, her competition with Dad on who could figure out the daily word jumble first for a buck and time visiting with family and friends.

Survivors include her children, Denise & Robert Stahl, Lisa & Robert Wessel both of Luxemburg, Dave & Tammy Davister, Maryville, TN, Nicki & Kevin Strebel, New Franken. Grandchildren: Denise's children Jessica (Michael) Woulf, Will Stahl; Lisa's children Zach (Justina) Wessel, Bobbi Sue (Phillip) Vogels, Louie (Jessica Liebeck); Dave & Tammy's children Shawn & Renee Dollar; Nicki's children Tyler, Brody & Jordy Strebel. Great-grandchildren Mickenzie, Madison & Malcolm Wessel, Madeline & Jack Woulf. Brothers and sisters, Sister Johanna Treml, John Shutter, Pat Lufter, Ben & Barb Treml, Victor & Linda Treml, Rita DeGrave, Mark & Cindy Treml, Roland & Jean Treml, Terri & Bill Jerabek, Kay & Gary Grunwald; brothers in law and sisters in law, Fred & Bonnie Davister, Sharon & Ken Pieschek, Lynn & Len Whipp Godchildren: Missy Haen, Debbie Kroll & Amy Grunwald and many nieces and nephews.

Lois J. Belter, 88, Kewaunee, died Saturday, July 29, 2023, at a Green Bay hospital following a short illness.  She was born in Suring on August 10, 1934, to the late Edwin and Lucille (Wood) Weier.  On September 4, 1954, she married Robert E. Belter Sr. in Suring, Wisconsin.  He preceded her in death on May 4, 1998. Lois was employed in various industries, retiring from Emerson Electric Co. Sturgeon Bay. Her enjoyments included knitting, crocheting, watching the Brewers, tending to her four-legged companions, and spending time with family.

Survivors included her six children, Robert (Patty) Belter Jr, Bruce (Pam) Belter, Bonnie Micolichek, Richard “Talker” Belter, Randy (Sherri) Belter, Rodney Belter; eleven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews further survive.

Lois was preceded in death by, her parents; her husband; one son-in-law, Scott Micolichek; one grandson, Sam Belter; two great grandsons, Hunter Lock, Cameron Cree; one brother, Vincent (Sylvia and Earl Kahler) Weier Sr.; one sister, Anita Weier; one brother in law, Lowell Belter.

Gregory Walter Virlee, 71, of Sturgeon Bay passed away at Door County Medical Center on August 1, 2023.   He was born October 21, 1951, in Sturgeon Bay to Henry and Ethel (Annoye) Virlee.  Greg married Margaret “Maggie” Dorothy Koenig on October 27, 1973, in Luxemburg.

Greg grew up on a farm in Brussels and graduated from Southern Door High School in 1969.  He attended the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and NWTI.  For most of his life, he worked for the U. S. Postal Service in Sturgeon Bay.  Greg enjoyed being the “bulk mail specialist” for Door County and had a great rapport with a variety of customers.  

Greg was a very active and long-time member of the Sturgeon Bay Lions Club, where he chaired the Rose Sales for thirteen years.  He was a Melvin Jones Award Recipient and recently received the Ray Hemple Award.  Greg also volunteered with Meals on Wheels and was a member of the St. Joseph Church Financial Council.  He loved all sports but especially enjoyed following the Packers, Badgers, and Brewers.  He also liked golf and playing fantasy football.

Survivors include his wife, Maggie; two sons, Jesse (Jennifer) Virlee and Todd (Elizabeth) Virlee; two grandchildren Maia and Ellie Virlee; in-laws, Mary Virlee, Mabel (Wally) Kraynik, Harold (Bonnie) Koenig, and Elmer (Sandy) Koenig; nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother David and brother-in-law Frank Koenig.

Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 4, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Matthew Rappl officiating.  Friends may call at the church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.  Inurnment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Sturgeon Bay Lions Club.  Forbes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mack Wesley Djuplin, 65, of Milwaukee, passed away at home, July 1, 2023.

     He was born March 17, 1958 in Sturgeon Bay, the son of John Wesley Djuplin and Marilyn Luceina (Magnusson) Djuplin. Mack attended Gibraltar High School and graduated with the class of 1976.

     On September 23, 1978, he married Julie Seaquist at Zion Lutheran church in Sister Bay. They were blessed with two children: Andrew and Elizabeth and raised their family in Sturgeon Bay.

     Mack was initially employed as an electrician with Peterson Builders, Inc. (PBI) in Sturgeon Bay. He then worked for Struck Construction before going back to the shipyards and working for Bay Shipbuilding Co., both in Sturgeon Bay.

     Mack and his family were members of the Sturgeon Bay United Methodist Church. He and Julie shared nearly 38 years of marriage. She preceded Mack in death on August 7, 2016. Mack moved to Milwaukee in December of 2022 to be closer to family.

     He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time outdoors.

     Mack will be missed by his two children, Andrew Djuplin of Austin, TX and Elizabeth (Josh) Mitchell of Milwaukee; grandson, Beckett Mitchell; siblings, Lynea Neuville of Sturgeon Bay and John (Marilu) Djuplin of the Town of Nasewaupee; siblings-in-law, Diane (David) Koertge of Green Bay, and David (Rosa) Seaquist of Downers Grove, IL; nephews; and other relatives.

     He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother-in-law, James Neuville; and other relatives.

     Mack's life will be honored with a memorial service held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at Sturgeon Bay United Methodist with Rev. David Leistra officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held at the church on Saturday, August 5, 2023 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.

On Sunday, July 30, 2023, the Lord took Roger George Anderson, 70, of the Town of Nasewaupee, in His arms and freed him from the Parkinson’s that had taken over his body. Roger passed away at the Unity Hospice Jack and Engrid Meng Residence in the Town of Ledgeview with family at his side.
He was born December 22, 1952 in Sturgeon Bay to Gustave and Emily (Goll) Anderson. Roger grew up attending Carlsville Grade School and then Algoma High School.
Through a cousin, he met Betty Ann Ferron. They were united in marriage on June 19, 1971 at Betty’s home parish, Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church in Maplewood, where Roger became a member and remained a member with Betty. Roger and Betty were young teenagers at the time of their marriage, but after 52 years of marriage, they were inseparable.
He was an exceptional woodworker, and spending time in his workshop brought him great joy.
Roger’s passion for woodworking could be appreciated all throughout his and his daughters’ homes – from the furniture he made to the handcrafted toys parked all about. His legacy will live on through the many projects he gave to his family and teaching his boys the trade.
Roger initially worked in the shipyards at Peterson Builders, Inc. (PBI) in Sturgeon Bay as part of the cleanup crew and eventually with the sandblasting and finishing department. He then worked for Palmer Johnson Yachts in Sturgeon Bay as a foreman until its closing when he retired.
Earlier in life, Roger enjoyed hunting and fishing and riding his motorcycle as well as spending time with his family at the cabin he built, “R-Little Corner”.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Betty; four precious daughters, Jean (Chris) Chase, Jenny Anderson, both of the Town of Nasewaupee, Jane (Edward) Hensley of Sturgeon Bay, and Joni (John) Nessinger of Forestville; nine grandchildren, who were the apple of his eye; three great-grandchildren; four siblings, Joyce Anderson of Green Bay, Richard (Cindy) Anderson of Euren, Ralph (Nancy) Anderson of Algoma, and Ron (Lynn) Anderson of Casco; other relatives; and friends.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents; two siblings, Gayle LeMere and Randy Anderson; niece and Godchild, Jodi Anderson; parents-in-law, Clayton and Rose (nee Swoboda) Ferron; brother-in-law, Clayton Ferron, Jr.; and other relatives.
His life will be honored with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church in Maplewood with Fr. Ryan Krueger as celebrant and Dcn. Mark Hibbs assisting. Roger will be laid to rest in the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum at Nicolet Memorial Gardens in the Town of Scott.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.
Memorials may be given in Roger’s name for Unity Hospice (2366 Oak Ridge Circle, De Pere, WI 54115).

Lynn M. Mastalir, 68, of Kewaunee, passed away on Friday, July 28, 2023. She was  

born July 4, 1955, to the late Henry and Marcella (DeGrand) Mileski. Lynn met John  

while they both worked at Van Gheem Truck in Green Bay. Love blossomed and they  

married on May 3, 1975. Lynn’s short skirts and legs were John’s pride, he loved her 

to her last day and told her we need to go shopping as soon as you’re back on your  

feet. Lynn and John had a great phrase each morning and when he got home at night.  

Every morning when John left, he told her “See you later alligator” and she replied  

“after a while crocodile.” 

Lynn and John moved to Kewaunee where they have lived since. In 1996 after having  

sacrificed years to build the company, John built Lynn her home on the lake. 

Lynn is the longest tenured employee of BlueWater Services with over 40 years, dating back to the original  operating company. Lynn and John also operated Riverview Transfer Station in Kewaunee. Lynn and John are long term members of the Kewaunee Lions Club with over 30 years of service. She was a past two term club President,  a Melvin Jones recipient, a Ray Hempel Fellow and attended local, state, and international Lions Conventions with  John. Lynn has been a 100% attendance member for the last 29 years. 

Lynn and John raised 8 puppies for Leader Dogs for the Blind. They hosted 3 Lions Youth Exchange students. Lynn  was just thinking that now they could have time to enjoy traveling to her favorite haunts in Missouri and  Tennessee and they were planning a trip out west in spring. 

Lynn and John loved ballroom dancing and took many lessons and dad loved watching us dance and both of us  loved being together and dancing. John will truly miss his best dance partner, who wasn’t afraid to critique my so called improvised moves. A few weeks back Lynn and I talked, and she told me if something ever happened to her, I still had Holly & Gail as my best girls to dance with. I guarantee when we get together again, we have a lot of  dancing to do.  

They have two children Marlene (J) Hall, and Michael Mastalir (special friend Jody); grandchildren, Regina “Gina”,  Grant Augustian, JD, Luke, Kavari, and Havanna, Hall. Lynn has two sisters, Julie (John) Schmitz, Debbie (Joe)  Herman; brothers, Darrel (Terry) Mileski, Dick (Irene) Mileski; brothers-in-law, Paul (Helen) Mastalir, Dave (Margo)  Mastalir, Steve Mastalir, Dan (Jan Linberg) Mastalir, Peter Mastalir (Dennis Bartley), Andrew (Betty Jo) Mastalir;  sisters-in-law, Mary Szpara, Ann Jahnke (Rick Linssen); nephews and nieces, and mother-in-law, Catherine  Mastalir. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and her father-in-law, Edward “Fred” Mastalir; brother-in-law, Mike  Szpara. 

Visitation will take place at Kinnard Funeral & Cremation Services – Kewaunee on Friday August 4, 2023, from 4:00  – 8:00 pm with a prayer service at 7:45 pm. Visitation will continue at the funeral home from 9:00 – 10:30 am on  Saturday, August 5. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 am at Holy Rosary Catholic Church – Kewaunee  with Fr.
