With the state of Michigan legalizing marijuana and the City of Green Bay cutting the fines for marijuana possession in half this week, a Sturgeon Bay councilmember would like to have city residents have a choice to decide on the topics. District 6 representative Seth Wiederanders brought up the idea of two non-binding referendum questions to legalize marijuana at a recent city council meeting, similar to the one that the Door County Board of Supervisors discussed before voting it down. Wiederanders says with more municipalities and states legalizing marijuana recently, this area is losing out on tourism dollars.
The marijuana topic will now go to the Community Protection and Services Community, in which Wiederanders serves on, before going to the Sturgeon Bay City Council for any future action.
