The Stratford Tigers scored three touchdowns in the game’s opening stanza to run away from the Kewaunee Storm 42-12 Friday night on 96.7 WBDK. Kade Erike opened the scoring on the second play from scrimmage for the Tigers from 42 yards out. After the Tigers picked off a pass by Ryan Carmichael, Chase Flink scored his first of three touchdowns a few plays later to make it 12-0. Quarterback Max Schwabe closed out the quarter with a sneak to extend the lead to 19-0 following the kick. Flink and Erike would add touchdowns in the second quarter to make it 35-0 at the half. Running back Owen Kudick brought the Storm fans to their feet with a 42-yard touchdown run for Kewaunee’s first score of the game. After Flink answered with a 15-yard touchdown run in the middle of the fourth quarter, the Storm would end the game and their season with a five-yard touchdown pass from Carmichael to graduating senior McCoy Walechka.
Despite the sour note to end their season, Kewaunee has plenty to be proud of in their 2018 campaign. The Storm went undefeated during the regular season to win the MONLPC. Kewaunee players also collected 18 all-conference honors, including Tanor Bortolini earning offensive and defensive lineman of the year honors and Owen Kudick sharing offensive player of the year recognition.
