By Nick Freimuth Sturgeon Bay Soccer saw its season end in a 4-1 loss at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee on 103.3 FM ‘The Clipper.’ Sturgeon Bay’s leading goal scorer Eli Dietzel scored Sturgeon Bay’s lone goal on a penalty kick in the 30th minute. The goal pulled the Clippers back to a one goal deficit at 2-1. Sturgeon Bay would not score again unfortunately in the match.
Sophomore Donovan Jones scored the first and last goals for University School. The Clippers allowed an own goal in the first half and a second half goal to Matias Dermond. Clippers Coach Todd Maas said it University School played a great game and earned the win.
Sturgeon Bay loses just two senior starters and is poised to return even better next year with eight of the top nine goal scorers from this season returning in 2019. This unlikely state tournament run marked the seventh time in nine years that Sturgeon Bay played in Milwaukee for the state tournament.
