Edward R. Baum Jr., 72, Algoma, died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018 at Bellin Hospital with his family at his side. He was born November 12, 1945 in Sturgeon Bay. He was the son of Edward and Sylverius (Elers) Baum Sr.
He was raised in West Jacksonport and graduated from Sevastopol High School. Edward started his working career at the US Plywood in Algoma. He met the love of his life Virginia Seidl and they were united in marriage July 18, 1970 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Algoma and began their family.
Edward then started working at Bay Ship Building as a ship fitter for 18 years. When times were slow at the shipyards he changed jobs and worked at the Wisconsin label, Corp. until he retired, then his good times started. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. His Catholic faith was very important to him. In his free time he love to hunt, fish and watch the birds on all of his bird feeders. Edward planted thousands of trees on his land to make their beautiful woods. He was passionate about donating to Toys for Tots and other charities. Last, but not least he enjoyed riding around on his golf cart.
Edward is survived by his loving wife Virginia of 48 years, his children Schane, Algoma and Shelly (boyfriend John Steen), Oshkosh, sister LaVerne Riess, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Donna Zastrow, Marie (Dwight) Hurley, Charmaine (Steven) Sullivan, Sue Ann (Richard) Kinstetter, Alois (Lois) Seidl Jr., and many nieces and nephews.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister-in-law Arnold (Edna) Baum, brothers-in-law David Riess, John Wilquet and Danny Zastrow, in-laws Alois (Betty) Seidl.
Family and friends may gather Saturday November 3, 2018 from 9 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church, Maplewood with Father Carl Schmitt officiating. Burial in the church cemetery.
The family would prefer NO flowers and to give your donation to Toys for Tots in Edward’s memory.
