In a hard fought battle of the L-C’s, the Luxemburg-Casco Spartans fell to the Little Chute Mustangs 3-1 games in a W.I.A.A. Division 2 Sectional Final in Wrightstown Saturday night.
The Spartans came out on fire to claim game one 25-21 after jumping off to a 16-6 lead. The Mustangs responded in game two with a convincing 25-11 win. Games three and four went back and forth with the number one ranked Mustangs claiming the sectional championship with scores of 25-21 and 25-22, respectively.
Hannah VandenBerg, who will be playing for the Marquette Golden Eagles next year, dominated at the net and was too much for Luxemburg-Casco.
Junior setter Bekah Day led the Spartans with 40 assists while Senior Cassie Schiltz finished with 22 kills and 17 digs. Senior Amanda Miceli added 16 digs while Senior Claire Coppens contributed 12 digs and 2 aces.
Coach Jeff Frey also thanked Seniors Megan Sternard and Paige Skubal for their impact on the successful Spartan program the past four years. Luxemburg-Casco finishes the season at 24-21 while Little Chute, 38-1, will now play in the state semi-finals Friday at the Resch Center.
