The Storm defeated the Eagles 31-28 in round two of the high school football playoffs. The game lived up to the hype and both teams left it all out on the field.
Kewaunee got off to a hot start with Ryan Carmichael finding Alex Hewett and McCoy Walechka for passing touchdowns. Southern Door would answer back with a one-yard touchdown from Derik LeCaptain at the end of the second. That would trim the lead to 13-7 going into the half.
Carmichael would find Hewett for a 46-yard touchdown to open up the third. The Eagles came right back with a Kyle Daoust 12 yard touchdown run. Daoust would find Tyler Kroll on a touchdown to tie it at the beginning of the fourth.
Kewaunee eventually answered with a touchdown run from Owen Kudick and a field goal. That would put them up 31-21 with 4:00 left in the fourth. Southern Door never gave up and scored on a Nick Baudhuin five-yard touchdown run. They would recover the onside kick but just fell short in what was an instant classic.
Kewaunee will now advance with a chance to make it to the State qualifying game.
