The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans scored 10 of the first 12 points in the decisive fifth game to defeat the Notre Dame Tritons 3-2 Thursday night in Seymour.
After dropping the first set 25-22, the Spartans came back strong in the second game to win 25-21. The Spartans used their strong lineup of hitters to take the third game by a score of 25-20. McKenzie Henson (13), Cassie Schiltz (18), and Peyton Vandenbush (13) all registered kills in the double digits. The Tritons would come back in the fourth game, opening the frame with five straight points before the Spartans stormed back. Notre Dame used their outstanding defense to eventually even the match at 2-2 with a 25-22 game four win. The Spartans would storm out to an early 6-1 advantage to take the decisive fifth game 15-5. Rebekah Day would register 47 assists in the match including double-digit totals in the second and third games. Defensively it was Amanda Miceli leading the way for the Spartans with 12 digs while Holly Baierl collected six blocks.
The Spartans will head to Wrightstown Saturday for a sectional final showdown against Little Chute. Tyler Thrune and Paul Schmitt will have the call on 96.7 WBDK with the pre-match show beginning at 6:30 p.m. followed by the opening serve at 7 p.m.
