The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans fell to Grafton 28-21 in a WIAA Division 3 Level 1 playoff game Friday night.
After a scoreless first quarter, Spartans struck first with on a nine-yard run by quarterback Garrit Aissen to take a 6-0 lead. The Blackhawks then capitalized on a couple Spartan miscues, a fumble and blocked punt, to take a 14-6 lead. On the ensuing kickoff with :11 seconds left in the half, Anthony Otradovec went 96 yards on an electrifying return to pull the Spartans within a point at 14-13.
After a Blackhawk touchdown in the third quarter, Nathan Coisman scored on a three-yard run. Aissen then hit Coisman for a two-point conversion to tie the game at 21-21 with 10:11 left in the fourth quarter. The Blackhawks responded with a scoring drive that was capped by a five-yard run by Joey Giorgi with 6:15 left in the game. The Spartans had two more chances but were not able to threaten beyond mid-field in the minutes.
Aissen finished 16-31 for 135 yards with one interception. Matt Cravillion caught five passes for 83 yards. The Spartans finish the season 6-4, while Grafton (6-4) will now face New Berlin Eisonhower in a level 2 playoff next Friday.
