By Nick Freimuth It was a tough night for Packerland Conference Volleyball Thursday night. Algoma, Sturgeon Bay and Southern Door all lost regional semi-final games. Howards Grove beat Algoma (25-17, 25-8, 25-17). Brillion downed Southern Door (25-22, 25-23, 25-21). Sturgeon Bay fell to #1 Notre Dame (25-12, 25-9, 22-25, 25-22).
Gibraltar is now the lone Packerland Conference Volleyball team still alive in the postseason. The Vikings earned their way to a regional final match Saturday night by topping N.E.W. Lutheran (25-17, 15-25, 25-9, 25-23). The #3 seed Vikings will play at #2 seed Central Wisconsin Christian Saturday at 7:00 PM.
Luxemburg-Casco also advanced. The Spartans swept Freedom (25-21, 25-20, 25-17). Bekah Day dished out 38 assists. Cassie Schiltz dominated with 20 kills. Hannah Derenne and Alli Routhieaux combined for 18 digs. Coach Jeff Frey said, “It was a good win tonight against a really scrappy Freedom team, Ellen has done a great job with her program, they made us work for everything. Excited for the opportunity to play for a Regional Championship on our floor Saturday night.”
