Sevastopol’s defense set the tone and the offense did the rest in a 64-16 rout of cross-county rival Gibraltar on 104.1 WRLU and 105.1 The Viking Friday night.
Alex Krause got the Pioneer homecoming fired up with a touchdown off the interception of Trevor Reinhardt to open the scoring. Ethan Kroll and Nathan Stenzel would account for three of the next four touchdowns for the Pioneers on the ground while Krause was able to reach the end zone on a 40-yard passing play. Reinhardt was able to connect with Alex Laughlin with 15 seconds left in the first half to give the Vikings their first points of the evening. Reinhardt would connect for another touchdown pass in the second half, this time from four yards out to Adam Reinhardt. That, however, was sandwiched between two Stenzel-led touchdown drives including Krause’s third score on the day.
Sevastopol will host the seeding meeting for the inaugural 8-man football tournament, which according to the WIAA standings has them tied for the third best record in the state. According to Pioneer athletic director Jen Wiesner, a final decision on the eight-team field should be finalized by noon on Saturday.
