By Nick Freimuth Sturgeon Bay played their closest game of the season Friday night in Oconto on 103.3 FM The Clipper. A 33-6 loss dropped the Clippers to (0-6) on the season. Reece Nellis was the player of the game for Sturgeon Bay. He played more than a handful of positions including running back where he rushed for the longest play from scrimmage for the Clippers on the season. A 69-yard touchdown run in the first quarter tied the game at 6-6. He later threw a 40-plus yard pass to Hunter Moore to keep a Clipper comeback bid alive.
Oconto earned their first conference win behind a three-touchdown game from Zach Sherman. The Blue Devils defense held the Clippers to just one first-half first down and 154 yards of total offense.
The Clippers now enter homecoming week where they will host Southern Door next Friday night at Memorial Field. Our broadcast on 103.3 will begin with Coach Jim Adams at 6:30 PM for the Door County Medical Center Pre-Game Show.
