For the second week in a row, the Gibraltar Vikings will face a team that went undefeated in 2017, including a win in the WIAA 8-man Jamboree. The Vikings travel to Oakfield Friday to face the Oaks, a replacement game to substitute their canceled contest against Bowler-Gresham.
Gibraltar stuck with Newman Catholic for a quarter in last week’s 63-34 loss but did not have any answers for Kasey Kaliface, who added a defensive score to his five other touchdowns. Despite the tough day through the air, Trevor Reinhardt was able to engineer five scoring drives, capitalizing a couple times on his own using his legs and on a 55-yard trick play from the arm of Luke Steebs.
Like the Vikings, the Oaks suffered their first loss of the season last week, losing to Elkhart Lake/Glenbeulah 42-24 after shutting them out 51-0 in Week 1 of the season. On paper, Oakfield appears to be a running team led by Javaun Mielke, who has over 800 yards rushing on the season with 13 touchdowns. Jacob Cedar lines up behind center for the Oaks, throwing for seven touchdowns and adding another three on the ground.
Tim Kowols will have the call beginning at 6:30 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the kickoff at 7 p.m. on 105.1 The Viking and streaming online at DoorCountyDailyNews.com
