By Nick Freimuth Sturgeon Bay won a close match with N.E.W. Lutheran Thursday night in five games (26-24, 16-25, 22-25, 25-22, 15-11). Outside hitters Koko Hartzell and Hailey DeGrave each played exceptionally well. Hartzel tallied 14 kills, three aces and three blocks. DeGrave added 18 kills and two 2 aces. Katie Frank led the Clippers by setting 26 assists. Lauren Alger pitched in with 13 set assists. Kasia Klotz finished with seven kills, four aces and four blocks. Sturgeon Bay Coach Stacy Judas said, “We played with a little hesitation the first three sets, but as we’ve seen this team do again and again, they refocused and dug in to see the match through to victory.”
Luxemburg-Casco topped Clintonville three games to one in varsity volleyball Thursday (25-9, 25-8, 25-13). Bekah Day had an amazing 28 assists and four aces. Kenzie Hanson and Cassie Schiltz each tallied eight kills. Megan Sternard chipped in five digs and five aces. The win pushes L-C to (15-16) on the season and (4-2) in the conference. Coach Jeff Frey said, “I like the energy our girls played with tonight and I thought we stayed focused. It was a good night after a tough one on Tuesday night.”
