The Gibraltar Vikings look to give Newman Catholic their first loss in their brief eight-man football history Saturday when the two teams meet in Wausau on 105.1 The Viking.
Newman Catholic went 10-0 last season in its inaugural campaign, including a 63-20 rout of Gibraltar and winning the de facto state championship against Luck 34-32. The Fighting Cardinals are led by quarterback Ben Bates, who has thrown for over 1400 yards with 21 touchdown passes against one interception. Newman Catholic won its last game 56-34 over Oneida Nation.
Gibraltar is coming off its own a blowout win, an 80-30 dismantling of Gillett last Friday night. Three different quarterbacks connected on long touchdown passes for the Vikings, which also showed its improved running game as well for a few scores as well. Quarterback Trevor Reinhardt was held out of the second half due to a hard hit he took defending against an interception run back.
Tim Kowols will have the call on 105.1 The Viking beginning at 12:30 p.m. with the pregame show and kickoff at 1 p.m.
