By Nick Freimuth Sturgeon Bay got their greatest test yet in the Packerland Conference this season Thursday. A 5-3 win over Peshtigo featured a 2-2 tie at halftime. Ben Luders, Owen Stevenson, Trey Maas Dillon Burk and Christian Fairchild each scored a goal in the win. Stevenson and Eli Dietzel both had assists in the win. The Clippers outshot the Bulldogs 39 to 28, including nine shots on goal to seven for Peshtigo.
Clippers Coach Todd Maas said, “We had a rough first half. (We had) a couple issues with quality and communication that we need to fix. (The) second half was much better. We started to get better ball movement and spacing, which paid dividends on the scoreboard for us. I liked how things started to flow, controlling the ball with patience. Now we just need to keep on building from here and move forward.”
The “War on the Shore” between Algoma and Kewaunee soccer took place Thursday. The Storm earned a 5-1 victory with Alex Hershfield scoring a hat trick, three goals. Charles Schultz scored the other two for Kewaunee in the big win.
