Under windy and cool conditions, the Freedom Irish defeated the Luxemburg-Casco Spartans 21-13 in Luxemburg Friday night before a huge homecoming crowd. Freedom scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to prevail as the Spartans failed to capitalize on numerous opportunities in a North Eastern Conference match-up of 3-1 teams.
The Spartans scored first on a 10 yard run by quarterback Garrit Aissen with 2:38 left in the first quarter. The Irish responded with a touchdown in the second quarter to tie the game going into halftime.
After intermission, Luxemburg-Casco scored on a one yard run by Nathan Coisman at the 7:55 mark in the third quarter to take a 13-7 lead but would not score again as Freedom used a dominating defense to frustrate the Spartans. Luxemburg-Casco could only muster 205 total yards of offense.
Anthony Otradovec led the Spartans with 11 receptions for 121 yards. The Spartans (3-2, 3-3 overall) will now travel to Clintonville next Friday to take on the winless Truckers in a game that will be broadcast on 96.7 FM WBDK. The Pregame Show with Coach Dillon Maney will begin at 6:30 pm with kickoff set for 7 pm.
