By Nick Freimuth Last night on 103.3 FM and 104.1 FM WRLU the Sturgeon Bay Clippers fell to (0-4) on the season after a 52-9 defeat in Coleman. The town that boasts 839 residents had twice as many players out for football last night. Sturgeon Bay, population 7,000+ had only 19 players able to play at points in last nights game. Trailing 38-0 at halftime, Sturgeon Bay gave up two more scores to open the second half. The lone touchdown for the Clippers came in the fourth quarter when sophomore quarterback Jack Schmelzer connected with Ryan Safranski on a 71-yard touchdown.
Coleman gained 386 yards of offense with most of them coming in the first half. Jacob Zeitler rushed for 149 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Cougars. The Clippers gained a total of 129 yards on the night more than half came on the scoring play.
Kewaunee travels to Sturgeon Bay next Friday night for one of two remaining home games for the Clippers this season. Our broadcast on 103.3 FM ‘The Clipper’ will begin at 6:30 PM. Kickoff will follow at 7:00 PM.
