By Nick Freimuth Hailey DeGrave was the enforcer for Sturgeon Bay tallying 16 kills in a three sets to two win (17-25, 25-22, 13-25, 25-23, 15-13) over Shawano in varsity volleyball Monday. Lauren Alger and Katie Frank set the team up for success combining for 29 set assists. Each had a great night at the service line as well. Koko Hartzell had a great night on the outside with 12 kills. Carley Wodack controlled the middle with five kills.
Coach Stacy Judas said, “This was a huge match for us facing off against a solid Shawano team. Our defense kept us in the long rallies and as the night went on our offense took over led by Hailey DeGrave who had a phenomenal night. After faltering in the third set, we refocused and rallied in the fourth and fifth to keep our offense aggressive and move the ball around. I am very proud of the way our girls kept fighting- they found their grit tonight and will be looking forward to bringing that into the matches the rest of the week.”
