By Nick Freimuth Sturgeon Bay outshot and outscored N.E.W. Lutheran in a battle of unbeaten conference foes Thursday. The Clippers outshot the Blazers 28-0 en route to an 8-0 win. Eli Dietzel scored twice and assisted on two plays to lead Sturgeon Bay. Arthur Kelsey netted two balls. Freshman Ben Luders scored two goals and assisted on one. Trey Maas and Carson Dvorak each scored a goal and CJ Fairchild had two assists in the win.
Coach Todd Maas said, “Coming off of a well played game against Preble, I wanted the boys to play with that kind of effort and pace on the ball. We did score right away with 2:06 on the clock, which was one of our objectives. Once we got settled in and especially in the second half things started to click more.” Sturgeon Bay led N.E.W. 2-0 at halftime and extended their lead in the second half considerably. “I like that the boys held a clean sheet, and N.E.W. had 0 shots on goal which was good to see,” Mass added.
Algoma hosted Peshtigo and the teams finished with a 2-2 stalemate. Riley Reinhart scored the Wolves first goal and was assisted by Justin Dragosh. Adam Wahlers was assisted by Noah Paczcak on Algoma’s second goal. The hero for the Wolves was goalkeeper Haakon Utesch. He finished with 22 keeper saves in the tie.
