(Sturgeon Bay, WI) 9/1/18 Race Report: Shawn Kilgore returned to victory lane in the Village Kitchen Modifieds for the 2018 season finale at the Hill Raceway. Brad Theys paced the opening laps of the$500 to-win Modified main until Kilgore came to call on lap 5. Kilgore dominated the remainder of the event to earn his 26th career win and first since 2011. He now sits tied for 13th on the all-time feature win list with Bernie Reinhardt and Rod Snellenberger. Russ Reinwald made a late race charge to finish second, Theys was third, Dave Zeitler come home fourth and Kelsy Hayes rallied after a crash in the heat to complete the top five. There were 10 total Modifieds.
After a Heat race win in his first visit of the season former Street Stock ace Paul Diefenthaler jumped to the lead on lap 1 of the Stock Car main event. After starting 8th Bret Koehler raced to the runner-up position on lap 5, setting he sights on Diefenthaler. Koehler closed in on the back bumper, making the pass for the lead on lap 12. Diefenthaler kept the pressure on the remainder of the event but in the end, Koehler collected the victory. Dave Bouche closed in late to place third, John Anschutz took fourth and Dan Sell completed the top five. There were 21 Stock Cars.
“Captain” Todd Weise dominated the 15 car Sport Mod feature, leading every lap en route to his first feature win of the season. Jeff Vlies placed second, Chris Budzban made his first trip back after a crash a month ago to take third, Eugene Gregorich III had his best run of the season to place fourth and Dennis Miesler was fifth.
Cody Potter made the 3.5–hour trip from Pell Lake a successful one in the Street Stocks. Potter led from the drop of the green and went unchallenged to score his first ever win at the Hill. Trailing Potter at the checkers were Kevin Luedtke, Ford Malvitz, Allen Dillon and Derek Kaye. Action was halted on lap 7 when John Hill barrel rolled. Hill emerged unscathed but his racer was done for the night. Potter bested a field of 17 cars.
“Lead Foot” Johnny Knudson won the Quietwoods Trailer Race of Destruction for the 3rd year in a row.
