In its first contest of the season, the Gibraltar Vikings flew past the NEW Lutheran Blazers on Saturday afternoon with a 28-6 win on 105.1 WSBW. Gibraltar relied heavily on the passing game scoring all of its points through the air in the victory. NEW Lutheran got out to an early lead following a 68 yard scamper by QB Luke Bukowski, but failed to convert the two point conversion for its lone score of the game. The Blazers looked poised to take the 6-0 lead into halftime before Trevor Reinhardt connected on a 70 yard touchdown to Alex Laughlin. The Vikings failed its conversion attempt which tied the game at 6-6, which would stand through halftime. On its second drive of the half, Reinhardt connected on his second touchdown throw of the game, this time finding Adam Reinhardt on a fade route in the red zone to give the Vikings its first lead. Laughlin ran in the two point conversion for a 14-6 lead. Following a surprise onside kick, the Vikings offense came back on the field, and on the first play of the possession, Trevor Reinhardt found Alex Laughlin down the sideline for a 47 yard strike to put the Vikings up 20-6 after another failed conversion. Reinhardt and Laughlin would connect one more time in the ball game for a 55 yard touchdown pass to put the game out of reach. Reinhardt finished the game with over 200 yards passing, 4 touchdowns, and one interception. With the win, Gibraltar officially moves into a tie with Gillett atop the MONLPC-8 at 3-0 due to forfeits and hosts Menominee Indian on Thursday August 30th.
