The Southern Door Eagles played host to the Wausau East Lumberjacks on Friday night. It was a gloomy, overcast episode of Friday night lights. The misty conditions made for a one sided game when it came to play calling.
Southern Door owned the first quarter of the game as they got out to a hot start. Derik LeCaptain began the game with a 65 yard touchdown rush to put the Eagles up 7-0 after their first possession. On the following Lumberjack possession, Kyle Daoust would pick the ball off and set up first and goal for their offense. Derik LeCaptain would then punch it in on a four yard score to put Southern Door up 14-0 after the first.
In the second quarter it was all Wausau East as they took the momentum back. They would score on a 42 yard touchdown run by Will Nash to get his team on the scoreboard. On the following possession, they would score again on a 29 yard touchdown rush to tie it up at 14 a piece going into half.
Southern Door fought their hearts out in the second half on defense to keep the D-1 Lumberjacks out of the end zone. The game finally broke open on an electrifying 84 yard touchdown rush by Derek LeCaptain in which he broke four tackles and juked a defender to find his way into the end zone. They would go on to win the game 20-14.
LeCaptain would end up with 35 carries on the game for 266 yards. He would also punch in the three scores for Southern Door. On defense, Kyle Daoust and Max Pierre lead the way with a pick each in the game.
