By Nick Freimuth The DCY Swim has two of its swimmers competing at the YMCA Long Course Nationals at the University of Maryland this week.
Stella Kersebet, a Gibraltar senior, went into the 200 breast stroke Tuesday seeded 57th. She swam a personal record time by trimming 1.5 seconds off her previous best time and came out 48th. Wednesday started with the 50 breast stroke. Kersebet finished 29th and dropped a half second off her personal best time.
Brock Aune, a junior at Southern Door, went into the 200 breast stroke seeded 51st and dropped an incredible 5.5 seconds off his previous personal best time to finish 26th. Aune just missed the finals, where the top 24 swim for a chance at the podium. Wednesday started off extremely well for Aune. He finished 15th in the 50 dropping a half a second off his previous best time. He will swim in the B Heat Finals tonight in the 50 breast stroke.
Coach Mike McHugh said what is best about their first day competing at Nationals is that these are their worst race events.
