As sure as the seasons change in Wisconsin, so could its football conferences. The Wisconsin Football Coaches Association released its proposed changes on Monday, giving new opponents to teams in Door and Kewaunee counties.
Under the changes, the Bay Conference would become a “sister conference” to Luxemburg-Casco’s Northeastern Conference. Out are Fox Valley Lutheran and Marinette, but the Spartans could face the two schools in conference crossover matchups.
The MONLPC-Large gains two new members under the proposed realignment, giving Algoma, Kewaunee, Sturgeon Bay, and Southern Door different opponents. Mishicot and Neenah’s St. Mary Catholic/Valley Christian are slated to be the conference’s new arrivals.
No changes are planned for the state’s eight-player football conferences, which would have affected Gibraltar and Sevastopol.
According to WBAY, the changes are being made to increase uniformity across the state with eight team conferences. The plan still needs to be discussed at the WIAA’s fall meetings.
