The 2018 WIAA track and field season came to an end Saturday with several local athletes on the podium. Also, as a team, the Algoma Wolves girls’ team took 2nd in Division 3. In Division 2, Hailey Shimon of Southern Door took 14th in the discus with a 105′-9″ throw. Haylie Novak of Kewaunee finished 10th in the triple jump. In Division 3, Algoma Wolf Katelyn Williams took second in the discus with a 144 foot, 7 inch throw. Algoma teammates Elizabeth McClure and Jenny Farley finished 4th and 14th respectively in the pole vault. Gibraltar’s Abbigael Sitte finished 8th in the 100-meter dash. Olivia Stenzel of Sevastopol took 9th in the 1600-meter race. Algoma’s 400-meter relay team of Courtney Guilette, Khloe Williams, Morgan Davister, Katelyn Williams took third. Courtney Guilette, Liberty Ansorge, Alli Spitzer, Jenny Farley teamed up in the 1600 meter relay race to take 10th.
On the boy’s side Brady Wodack, Luke Brinkman, Hayden Shefchik, Nathaniel Greenlaw of Sturgeon Bay took 10th in the 400-meter relay race. Kiegen Sargent from Sevastopol placed 13th in the long jump. Algoma’s Max Schoening took 4th in the shot put.
