Friday was a busy day for local athletes at the WIAA State Track and Field Meet held in LaCrosse. One local athlete was crowned State Champion with several others qualifying for final events. Starting on the boys’ side, Alex Hewett from Kewaunee finished 15th in Division 2 triple jump with a 41.75″ jump. Luxemburg-Casco’s Hunter Liebeck took 9th in the 1,600 meter run, finishing with a time of 4:27.0. The Sturgeon Bay relay team of Brady Wodack, Luke Brinkman, Hayden Shefchik, and Nathaniel Greenlaw were disqualified in the 800-meter relay but did finish 9th in the 400 meter preliminary, with a 43.89 second time which qualifies them for the finals. Southern Door’s lone Friday participant, Jared Conrad, just missed out on competing in the 200-meter dash finals, finishing 11th with a time of 22.59, just tenths of a second behind the qualifiers who finished 10th, 9th, and 8th place. Algoma’s Aidan Wallace finished 8th place in the Division 3 discus competition with a best throw of 146.3′. Also from Algoma Ryan Feuerstein finished 6th in the triple jump with a 42.7″ jump. Sam Utesch, took 2nd in the pole vault reaching a height of 13′-6″.
On the girls’ side Molly Wotruba from Luxemburg-Casco finished 14th in both the 100 and 300 meter hurdle preliminary races. Spartans teammate Olivia Treml finished 15th in the 100-meter dash preliminary race, and Kate Hilbert finished 15th in the 400-meter dash preliminary. The Sevastopol relay team of Zoe Kuehn, Mya Ploor, Lizzy Fiscus, and Olivia Stenzel finished 3rd in the 3,200-meter relay race. Elizabeth McClure from Algoma repeated as the Division 3 high jump champion, with a jump of 5′-4″. Her sister and teammate Anna McClure finished 12th in the event. Algoma’s Bobbi Blahnik finished 7th in the shot put. In the 100-meter dash preliminary races Abbigael Sitte qualified for the finals, finishing 7th and Katelyn Williams of Algoma finished 16th. Algoma relay teams qualified for the finals in two of the three faces they ran in.
