By Travis Grooters It was the perfect backdrop for the opening night of Cal Ripken Baseball in Sturgeon Bay. Bay Ship played the Red Room and the 1,000 foot Paul R. Tregurtha floated majestically behind the field as the first Sturgeon Bay Major League game of the year was played out. Red Room won the game 6-2 after jumping out early with a run in the bottom of the first. They then scored four more runs during a two-out rally in the bottom of the third inning.
The Ships started making good contact in the final two innings, scoring their only two runs in the sixth and final inning. The Red Room got three shutout innings from Calvin Richard, who struck out six to earn the win. Isaac Marsh pitched the final two innings, allowing two runs and striking out two. The Ships got a solid start from Tyler Plizak who went three innings and Caden LeMieux threw the final two innings, allowing only one run. Caden LeMieux and Tyler Plizak both went 2×3 from the plate with a run scored. Blake Guilette and Tyler Grooters each had a RBI for the Ships.
