The Gibraltar Vikings girl’s basketball team was able to hold off an upset attempt on Monday night, defeating Sevastopol 59-43. Both teams turned the ball over excessively in the first half but it was Gibraltar with a 31-16 advantage at the break. In a game where the Sevastopol seniors were honored before playing their last home game, it was freshman Zoe-Rose Kuehn who provided energy on both ends of the court, bringing the Pioneers within 6 points before Gibraltar was able to pull away. Kuehn led Sevastopol scorers with 13 points. For the victorious Gibraltar Vikings, it was senior Raina Haleen who stole the show, scoring 18 points, leading all scorers. Gibraltar’s freshman standout Karlee Kita also added 11 points for the Vikings. Gibraltar is back in action on Thursday night as they host Packerland Conference leader Southern Door on Senior Night.
