The top two teams in Packerland Conference boys basketball squared off Tuesday night in Oconto. The Blue Devils pushed the Eagles to the limit but Southern Door buckled down when it counted most and closed out a 77-71 road victory. Sam Gerend scored 21 points, Kyle Daoust and Derik LeCaptain each scored 15 points and Ryan Claflin added 14 points in the win. Carson Moe led Oconto with 16 and teammate Connor Ebben added 14 in the loss.
Oconto’s loss puts Sturgeon Bay back in second place after a 59-43 win over NEW Lutheran. Carson Talbert led the Clippers with 13 points, Mitchell Jackson added 11 points and Jared Van Bramer scored 10 points in the win. Samuel Meerstein led the Blazers with 15 points.
Sevastopol was blown out by Peshtigo 81-35. The Pioneers were unable to get a player into double digits for scoring. Peshtigo had four players eclipse ten points in the game.
Gibraltar came out hot in a non-conference game against Manawa and led 35-34 at half time. The Vikings pace slowed significantly in the second half as the Wolves ran away with the game 73-56. Ryan Kropuenske scored a team high 14 points for Gibraltar. Ryan Murphy added 12 points and Evan Henry scored 10 points in the loss.
