Frederick Leland Lent, 79, Algoma, passed away Monday, Jan. 22, 2018 at home with his family at his side after a long battle with cancer. He was born March 1, 1938 in Green Bay to David and Edith (Eastman) Lent.
His family had moved to Bailey’s Harbor where he spent most of his childhood.
Fred entered the US Army Nov. 14, 1960 and was honorably discharged Nov. 13, 1962. After his discharge he came to Algoma where he worked at the Algoma Hardwoods for 18 years.
Fred married Julie Novak in Algoma on Feb. 21, 1970.
Fred loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed and spoiled all of his pets over the years. Fred had a love of music and cars. He enjoyed being out in nature during the Fall season with all the beautiful colors of the trees and listening to the sounds of the birds singing. He loved camping and watching Nascar Racing. He was also an avid Green Bay Packer Fan and a Wisconsin Badger fan.
Fred was an active member of the US Army and belonged to the First Baptist Church of Sister Bay.
He is survived by his wife Julie of 47 years, daughter Amy (Miles) Shultis, Wisconsin Dells; son Fred (Lisa) Lent, Green Bay; four grandchildren Zachary Shultis, Alex (Kayla) Shultis, Anthony and Venessa Lent; three great granddaughters McKenna, Charlotte and Arabella Shultis; sisters-in-law Dolores Lent, Carol Lent and Rita Melvin; many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson Jimmie Cline IV, one sister Joan LeClair and three brothers David, Roger and Paul “Michael” Lent.
Friends may call at the SCHINDERLE FUNERAL HOME, Algoma, from 4 – 8 PM, Thursday, Jan.25, 2018 and again after 9 AM Friday until the time of services at 11 AM with Pastor Mark Billington officiating. Burial in the Evergreen Cemetery with Full Military Rites.
The family would like to thank the Algoma Fire, Rescue and Police, Unity Hospice and Fred’s sister-in-law Sharon Braem for all the care given to Fred.
