Luxemburg-Casco Spartan boys basketball made a valiant comeback but eventually fell to the Beaver Dam Golden Beavers 60-48 at the Kress Center on the U.W. Green Bay campus Friday in the Sun Drop Shootout.
The Spartans trailed 39-24 at halftime but came roaring back in the second half to tie the game 48-48 with four minutes left in the game. Big contributions from two freshmen, Blake Yagodinski and Ryan Robillard, who combined for ten points helped the Spartans pull even. After a Beaver Dam timeout, the Golden Beavers finished the game on a 12-0 run to come away with the victory.
The Spartans were led by Nathan Coisman with 11 points, while Josh Zeitler and Robillard finished with eight points each. Beaver Dam’s Sam Wilke scored a game-high 17 points including a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line.
In the earlier game at the Kress Center, the Sturgeon Bay Clippers lost to the Two Rivers Purple Raiders 65-56.
Luxemburg-Casco (1-7) will now look to bounce back next Thursday as they will play host to the Marinette Marines in a Northeastern Conference game. The next L-C boys game broadcast on the radio will be January 25 against Freedom in Luxemburg.
The Spartan girls will host Southern Door next Tuesday in a game broadcast on 96.7FM WBDK with Matt Piesler and Paul Schmitt on the call starting at 7 p.m. with the pregame and tip off at 7:15 p.m. The game audio can also be streamed on DoorCountyDailyNews.com with video on facebook book live.
