The WIAA Division 4 state championship tomorrow will feature a rematch of a 0-0 regular season tie between the Prairie School and your Sturgeon Bay Clippers. In today’s semi-final match against Kohler, Sturgeon Bay played a great team game to advance with a 1-0 win. Keeper Trent Maas played aggressively in goal to preserve a clean sheet and thwart eight shots including four on goal.
The game’s lone goal came in the 36th minute off a corner kick from sophomore CJ Fairchild that found the back of the net off the foot of freshman Carson Dvorak. It proved to be enough despite the Clippers having the upper hand in time of possession and solid looks. The Clippers finished with 10 shots including six on goal. The Clippers defense did not give up a single shot on goal in the second half.
Dvorak said after the game he touched the ball with his left foot first then wielded a shot with his right to net the game’s only score. It was a beautiful ball near the far post that sent Clippers Nation into a tizzy. Fans in Milwaukee and listening in Door and Kewaunee Counties on 104.1 FM WRLU and worldwide at DoorCountyDailyNews.com were fired up after the big play.
Sturgeon Bay, the #3 seed at state will play #1 seed Prairie School at 4:30 PM for the state championship. WRLU’s pre-game coverage with Coaches Jeff Schaefer and Todd Maas will begin at 4:00 PM. Prairie School beat McDonell Central Catholic/Regis in a 5-1 blowout in the first Division 4 semi-final of the day.
