The opening round of regional tournament volleyball featured a three game sweep in each and every Door and Kewaunee County team Tuesday night. Sevastopol beat Cedar Grove-Belgium (25-13, 25-19, 25-16) Aly Differt led the way with eight kills, 17 assists and five ace serves. Stephanie Bemmann tallied 12 kills and five blocks. Courtney Tebo chipped in eight kills and 12 digs. Finally, Brooke Hurth dug up 16 balls in the back row.
Southern Door defeated Reedsville in three sets (25-17, 25-15, 25-13). Kendra Dantoin had 19 kills, Grace LeGrave added 12 and Hannah Pierre tallied eight for the Eagles. The Southern Door assist leader was Tehya Bertrand with 28. She added 18 digs in the victory.
Kewaunee lost to fourth seeded New Holstein (25-9, 25-13, 25-14).
#6 Algoma swept #11 Gibraltar (25-15, 25-14, 25-13).
#11 Surgeon Bay lost to #6 Denmark (25-14, 25-20, 25-22).
#2 Luxemburg-Casco topped #15 Green Bay West (25-8, 25-7, 25-6). Megan Cannon dished out 26 assists. Alexis Dorner accounted for 10 kills and 10 aces. Cassie Schiltz smashed nine kills. Molly Wotruba led the back row with seven digs. Spartans Coach Jeff Frey said, “It was a good start to the post season tonight. We are focused on one game at a time and competing and being focused on every point and playing with confidence and I thought we did a good job of that tonight.”
