The post-season hopes of the Brewers came to an abrupt end on Saturday night with a 7-6 loss to the Cardinals. The first seven innings looked more than promising with a 6-4 lead. The third inning was the most exciting with five of the six runs against Cardinals’ Luke Weaver. Ryan Braun came off a dry spell, delivering an RBI double. Travis Shaw followed with a two-run single, and Domingo Santana finalized the scoring party with his 30th home run of the season. The Cardinals answered at the bottom of the inning with four runs of their own.
At the bottom of the 8th, the Cardinals rallied against the Crew with relievers Josh Hader and Anthony Swarzak allowing three additional runs. The day came to a quick close with a shutdown ninth. The Brewers play the final game of the series today at 2:15 p.m. at Busch Stadium. Zach Davies would be on the mound if the Brewers were still in the running, but they will now hand the ball to rookie Aaron Wilkerson to close the season.
