You can begin planting seeds of interest in the 2018 Door County Master Gardener program. The volunteer horticulture organization of the University of Wisconsin-Extension is accepting applications to become a member. Classes begin in the depths of winter with 36 hours of education required along with 24 hours of volunteering and passing an open book exam at the end of the program. Door County Master Gardeners President Mike Van Ess says despite its name, you do not need to be an expert in the hobby to become a member.
The program costs $70 for individuals and $100 for two people if they live at the same address so they can share materials. Interested gardeners have until November 28 to apply.
