The Southern Door Eagles had to hold off a late Winneconne rally as they held off the Wolves 46-40 in Brussels on 102.1 WRKU Friday Night. After letting the Wolves score first to make it 8-0, running back Derik LeCaptain scored touchdowns on consecutive possessions to give the Eagles a 14-8 lead. Quarterback Ben Heyroth would lead the Wolves for a trio of scores to give the Wolves a 28-19 lead into halftime. Second half adjustments made by the Eagles paid off instantly as LeCaptain and Andrew Montana found the end zone to give them a lead they would not give up. LeCaptain closed up the scoring for the Eagles, scoring his fourth and fifth touchdowns of the evening on well over 200 yards rushing to give them a 46-34 lead. Junior quarterback Kyle Daoust made the most of his starting debut, tossing three touchdowns and two interceptions. A late 63-yard touchdown pass from Heyroth made it interesting for the Wolves, but a dropped pass on fourth down with 1:40 remaining put the game on ice for the Eagles.
The Eagles are back in action next week on the road against Wausau East. Nate Alberts and Brett Kinnard will have the call with the pre-game show starting at 6:30 p.m. and kickoff at 7 p.m. on 102.1 WRKU.
