Tax Increment Districts (TIDs) have been a mixed bag for some communities, but it has been almost all good news for one northern Door County community. TIDs act as a financing tool to help fund redevelopment or infrastructure improvements by borrowing against the growth of a tax base. The village of Sister Bay has used TIDs to create public spaces like its beach. Village administrator Zeke Jackson says residents and businesses bought into what Sister Bay officials were trying to sell and it has worked well for the community.
The village of Sister Bay replaced much of its infrastructure and completed its beach while the Wisconsin Department of Transportation worked on its reconstruction of State Highway 42 in 2015 and 2016.
